Caramelized Onion, Brie & Prosciutto Panini

A simple delicious and delicate sandwich that will have your tastebuds jumping.


  • 4 D’Italiano® Thick Slice 100% Whole Wheat Bread Duo Pack
  • 1 tbsp. Butter
  • 2 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 4 oz. brie cheese
  • 2 tbsp. fig jam
  • 6 slices of prosciutto
  • salt & pepper to taste

How to make

  • Place a large skillet over medium heat with a few teaspoons of olive oil over medium high heat.
  • Add sliced onions, stirring until all onions are coated.
  • Reduce heat and continue cooking about 10 minutes or so. The onions will soften and begin to get golden brown. Stir occasionally allowing the onions to get golden brown in colour.
  • Sprinkle the salt and pepper on top of the onion and continue stirring until the onions are a deep brown.
  • Remove from the grill and set aside.
  • Brush the top and bottom of both sides of bread with olive oil to help it get nice and golden brown when placed on the grill.
  • Spread a thin layer of fig jam on the inner side of the bread adding the sliced brie on top.
  • Layer 3 slices of prosciutto on each sandwich (more if you would like).
  • Top with caramelized onions and remaining slice of bread.
  • Place the sandwich on a warmed panini press or skillet. Press down and frilled until cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
