Grilled Steak Sandwich on Focaccia with Creamy Horseradish Mayonnaise

D'Italiano® Focaccia Buns

Original or Tuscan Herb

Makes 4 sandwiches.


4 D’Italiano® Plain Focaccia Buns
1 cup (250 ml) arugula or baby spinach leaves
1 onion, thinly sliced

Creamy Horseradish Mayonnaise

1/4 cup (50 ml) each sour cream, mayonnaise and horseradish
1 tsp (5 ml) finely chopped fresh rosemary or thyme


1 1/2 lbs (750 g) top sirloin steak, about 1 1/2” (3 cm) thick
2 cloves garlic, halved
2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil
2 tbsp (30 ml) black or mixed peppercorns, coarsely ground or cracked


Combine all Horseradish Cream ingredients. Set aside.
Rub both sides of steak with garlic. Brush with olive oil. Salt lightly. Pat an even coating of pepper on meat.
Grill on medium-high about 8 minutes on each side for medium rare (6-7 minutes for 1” /2.5 cm steaks). Let rest 5 minutes then slice thinly across the grain.
Toast buns on grill if desired. Spread a little horseradish cream on bun bottoms. Top with argulua, sliced steak, roasted red peppers and onion. Add more horseradish cream to taste. Top with bun lids and enjoy.
