1 D'Italiano loaf
confector sugar optional
1/2 tsp. almond extract
free range eggs a dozen 2 eggs per person
Cdn maple syrup (the real kind)
tblsp of milk or almond milk is better
pad of butter or cooking oil is optional
pinch 1/4 tsp cinnamon optional
sprinkle 4-5 dried cranberries packaged or bulk
Directions:One D'Italiano loaf will serve about 6 people. Using about 2 eggs per person, mix eggs, a little milk, (almond milk is better) about a teaspoon of confectors sugar (optional), a teaspoon of vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract in a large bowl mix together. Dip bread in egg mixture and lay on a cookie sheet to soak for a few minutes. Arrange sliced almonds on each slice. Transfer to griddle, pressing almonds with the back of the spatula. When browned, turn over and grill till almonds are toasty. They will stick to the bread because of the egg mixture. Sprinkle with dried cranberries, confectioner's sugar and serve with real maple syrup.fan a cou ple of Niagara peach slices,garnish mixed berries makes the plate pretty.lightly oil your grill or frying pan with pam non stick spray, a pad of butter or cooking oil soak the D'Italiano bread in beaten eggs in a bowl place on grill or in frying pan until golden brown, place toast on a plate dab with paper towel in event of excess,normally the bread absorbs and is not greasy, pour on maple syrup and a dash of cinnamon optional is heart friendly simple and very easy.
